So here it is folks I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and yes I’m ruling the rematch officially as a draw. I’ve also got a certain amount of flak for allowing Reddit’s admittance of Ruwin to ring for them. So I’ll go over what happened for transparency’s sake-
(I’m not going to be specific about names in certain cases to avoid people bitching at them, if you want names find them elsewhere - in the grand scheme of things they’re irrelevant)
A player for the Reddit team had to leave after the exhausting series on Swiftwater that went a round each. It should be noted said player made no effort to tell me they couldn’t play any longer and it was only after I approached the Reddit team in Mumble to find out what was going on. I told Reddit to wait while I looked for a proper sub. During the time I approached our subs Reddit would go on to bring in Ruwin to ring even after I requested many times not to.
They would go on to play on Coal Plant and take the victory with a player who was not officially on any roster. It goes without saying I was frustrated to find Reddit’s team captain who was supposed to be my voice when I couldn’t be there to placate the team, did not help.
Could I have stopped the game in it’s tracks and disqualified Reddit? Sure, but during the moment I felt the show had to go on and let things flow onwards instead of stalling for another 10 minutes to fix things. A decision while questionable, one I stand by with.
The biggest issue I think is this event was too much for me to handle. For that I’m the only one to blame for not having the proper amount of people staffing the event to insure things go as smooth as they should.
So what are we going to do about it for the future?
- Well first things first the main concern is we have more people dedicated staffing/administrating the event so I don’t have to be in 20 places at once making sure everything goes smooth.
- We’ll have approximately 3/4 months to make sure the next season of Tumblr vs Reddit is properly prepared, whereas first season only had 1 month.
- A more in-depth system for deciding who plays/subs. We saw a small bit of proof of concept in the balance of the West games in particular
- Get the word out to you guys more efficiently
In any case, I’m not too bothered about the hiccups. Were things done as efficiently as possible? Obviously not, but I’m not going to lose sleep over my first real event. Here’s to Season 2, see you guys then! :)
